Disenchantment

So I just finished watching the last part of the Matt Groening show Disenchantment, and the ending was really satisfying.

I stopped watching The Simpsons quite a while ago, as it’s almost pathological serial nature of the show made me feel like I was watching a soap opera, where you can enter and leave whenever you want.

Futurama has had a much better chronological behavior, where you feel, at least, like something is happening, and there have been somewhat meaningful developments with the characters throughout the series.

Plus, Futurama has left me in tears sometimes with some of the story lines, to the point where it’s difficult for me to watch them again as they hit me in the same manner.

Disenchantment has managed to do the same to me with its concluding episodes. Because it’s a story with an opening, a meandering adventure, and a conclusion, I hope it’s safe to say that it’s done.

What I want to talk about is the development of the character Luci. Cynical, evil child of the devil at the beginning, but developed into something very different in the end. When Luci makes their choice at the end of the show it had me in tears. It showed how much they had changed in character throughout the show, a truly selfless act, and one which allowed the show to conclude in the manner that befitted it.

I want more of that sir!
